SUBURBAN RESTRUCTURES BOARD, ADDS NEW EXPATRIATE STAFF TO ITS MANAGEMENT TEAM

 
Suburban West Africa, the holding company of the Suburban group of companies, announced today that it has restructured its board of directors and has made some recent additions to its management team, in order to prepare the company to achieve its objective of being the Next Generation Backbone for West Africa.  In addition to this development, the company has also recently concluded a consultancy engaged with KPMG, a leading business advisory firm to implement its Corporate Governance Policy.
 

March 9th 2009 - At the inaugural meeting of the board of directors held at the company headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, Suburban West Africa reconstituted of the boards of its subsidiary companies in line with its recently implemented Corporate Governance Framework by KPMG. The restructuring included the appointment of serving non-executive directors in the holding company as chair persons of the boards of the individual subsidiaries.  The objective of the restructuring was to leverage the knowledge and experience to the operations of the subsidiaries. 

Dr. Suleyman Ndanusa was appointed Chairman of the Suburban Telecom board, Mr. Tony Madojemu was appointed Chairman of the Suburban Systems board, Dr. ASP Sekibo was appointed Chairman of the Suburban Broadband board, Mr. Nicolas Okoye was appointed Chairman of the Suburban Telecommunications BVI board while Mrs. Eunice Oladeji was appointed Chairman of the Exchange Telecom board.  The board of Suburban West Africa also passed a resolution replacing the previously appointed directors of the five subsidiaries listed above.

In addition to the board restructuring, Suburban West Africa also filled some key vacancies within its management team. The new Group Chief Technical Officer is Mr. Anil Verma. Mr. Verma comes to Suburban with over 25 years telecom experience and prior to his new appointment was the Vice President of Network Planning and Engineering at Reliance Communications, one of the largest Telecom providers in India.  Also joining Mr. Verma are Mr. Pradeep Pillai and Mr. Krishnan Ranganathan.  Mr. Pillai comes to Suburban with over 14 years in Sales and Marketing and will be heading the Product Development unit.  Prior to joining Suburban, Mr. Pillai also served in Reliance Communications and had a prior stint in Nigeria with Globacom. Mr. Ranganathan comes to Suburban with over 16 years experience in sales, marketing and key account management with technology companies in India and Oman.  He will serve as the Head of Sales at Suburban West Africa.  Another recent vacancy was filled in one of the Suburban subsidiary companies. Mr. Finny Mlemchukwu will head the Business Solutions unit of Suburban West Africa’s broadband subsidiary. Mr. Mlemchukwu will be joining Suburban after serving in different technical roles at Sprint and Nextel Corporation, all based in the USA.

According to Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Chairman of Suburban West Africa “The recent changes in our boards and the key vacancies we have filled within our management team, as well as the implementation of our new Corporate Governance policy by KPMG are the final steps in ensuring we are fully equipped to achieve our business objectives as an organization.  In order to deploy the type of infrastructure and provide the type of services we intend to, not just in Nigeria but in West Africa, you have to have the right management team and governance framework.  The new structures and people give us the confidence we require to implement the company’s vision, which is to be the Next Generation Network carrier for West Africa.”
